A win is a win even when its ugly and they don't get much uglier from a passing or punt return standpoint than this one. Its almost like the Jackrabbits have never practiced a punt return or even watched other teams do it. The ongoing problems with special teams are certainly very concerning.

Sumner just wasn't sharp and it seems like the play calling went away from what was working in the pass game early on. Certainly the injury to Zenner and the 2 huge interceptions played some role in that.

Jacks are going to have to me much sharper offensively and on special teams as we start the MVFC season. The defense is going to be soundly tested and even if they are very solid they will be on the field a lot against the Ind. St. ground game. Our offense will need to sustain some drives to give the D some rest.

Last thing, you can't go for 2 in the first half just because the other team did. Played right into their hands when we did that.

Common sense says to put experience back at punt return. Tyrel Kool used to return kickoffs for us and did a nice job. I do not believe he is on 1 special team currently unless he is on our onside kickoff return team. I think we need to try him or even Tiefenthaler or possibly Rollin when he returns. What can it hurt?? Its up to our coaches to figure this out and figure it out quickly.

Didn't like the black pants either. Seemed to generic.

I would agree and hope when the new stadium comes every seat is chair back and there is absolutely no bench seating in the stadium. I have two season tickets and only used one but there is no room for sitting on either the west grand stand or east bleachers.

One other thing before i shut up,is it just me, or does it seem the Bison play alot more aggresively than we do on defense?Maybe I just think that way because they won it all last year.Being too aggressive can be exploited too, there are counter-measures for that too,as long as their opponent isn't too passive, and let them get by with it.

Our corners playing so far off the outside receivers is deceptive in that it looks bad from the fan perspective, but in theory and practice it's not all that bad.

Passes near the sideline are tougher throws (lower completion %) than those over the middle and take longer to reach there target (CB has more time to break on the ball), so encouraging the opposing QB to attempt them isn't a terrible thing. Also, most of the time when our corners are playing way off the far receiver the opposing offense has a slot receiver on that side, which our linebacker/safety is covering close to the line of scrimmage. This helps protect against the quick hit/WR Screen, plus, with the corner playing off, he has a good angle to see both the receiver he's line up against and the slot, which is important since we play a lot of zone. Also, just because they are playing deep doesn't mean they are always taking the deep zone, as disguising coverages and forcing opposing QBs to make post snap reads is a good thing.

I'm not saying the deep corners is always perfect (it's good to mix it up and show different looks), but I think it gets a bit overblown at times.

Exactly,we give up way too many first downs because of this,if the db gets fooled and beat long, isn't that what the safety is for,to prevent the td?I know it depends on how many eligible receivers are out.i'm not a great football mind, just asking someone more knowlegable what they think. Are we way too conservative,or is giving the 10 yard cushion the smart thing to do?I think taking a chance for a pick 6 every now and then puts pressure on a team in a different kind of way, even if it doesn't work but is close to working, and,if you do get one ,it changes the game in your favor real quick like.I'm really torn on this,i'm real conservative by nature, but don't like to see us as a team that never goes for the game changer every once in awhile.I don't like a team to become predictable, you have to have confidence in your teamates to cover your back if you go for it.Being too conservative makes the oppositions play calling, and game preparation way too easy after they watch the game films.Being too conservative is just about as bad as being too reckless,it just takes longer and in smaller increments to do the damage. Its all a confidence and trust thing ,in my opinion, how football defenses play.

Before the wheels completely fall off on a win.....

OL Fick and Parker back in the lineup will take care of those extra sacks
Rollin in the lineup will take care of the WR's, essentially the two top WR's from last year are not on the field and Sumner(with an injured thumb) still threw for about 200 yds.
UC Davis' defense is better than we are giving them credit for, just like State they kept us from running one play beyond their 25 yd line. That's a heck of an effort.
Good Defense plus Great Running Game=SDSU football, always has(except for last year)

Only issue: Need to get Zenner more rest. Gandy needs to get in the game plan more. Personally,I would have liked to see the Flash with the TE's, just wanted to see it.

P.S. Bell rushed for 349 yards this week. Game on.

This team is good. This is the game next week that we have to lay it on the line.

This has always been the case in recent years. It's never changed.

Defensively did anyone notice how soft again we are playing the cover 3 in the secondary. At times we were more than 10 yards off their Wr's and its a simple run a 5-8 yard hitch, turn around and catch it. Wish we would play a little tighter. Offensively at times we looked good but 2 key turnovers certainly hampered us. Now that the Valley games are starting I think we all know that 12 points a game will more than likely not win many if any at all. I still believe we have the talent to put more points on the board and I think we will. Have a great week of practice Jacks. Ind. St has a heck of a running back and I think its essential that our offense controls the ball to keep the ball away from him. I think he torched us for around 200 yards last yr. at Coughlin. A HUGE win on the road this week could set up some things for us as we then host Missouri St and I could easily see us at 4-1 if we could somehow pull it out at 3-0 Ind. State. Good luck Jacks!!
