With no threat of a QB sneak, it was pretty easy for the D to concentrate on Minett.

We also had no threat of a run/pass roll out combo in short yardage.

How many rushing yards did TOB have last year? Look it up, it is fact.

The O-line was one of the tops in the nation protecting TOB. The O-line produced holes for TOB to be a great runner.

Did the coaches call the correct plays on short yardage or were they hamstrung by TOB lack of mobility?

The O-line sure seemed to open holes in short yardage, long yardage, medium yardage when Minett and Tyrel Kool where in the backfield with no QB.

Don't blame the O-line for TOB's inability to run please.

Outstanding post. You hit the nail on the head. Rep points.

    Are you kidding me?

A QB sneak is on the center and the QB. The QB comes behind the center, sees an opening, taps his butt, and goes.

Did you notice how wide NDSU had their D tackles during the game? They were split out wide on the O tackles. NDSU knew we wouldn't QB sneak and take the easy five yards. Go back and look, I was there watching it.

If you're right, you'll see the quarterback you like most on the field. The issue will be decided on the field, and all speculation aside, and there is always plenty of that, I'll trust the coaches to put our best quarterback behind the center when we open in the fall. Have at it, QBs.

WR is a position that generally takes a while to learn, unless you are an out of this world athlete. You have a number of routes and reads to make.

I do think Rollin, Hubert, and Tiefenthaler with another year of experience will lead to an improved passing game. But, I'm a believer.
I'm a believer too. I believe Sumner is the second coming of Mike Busch. I hope the best for Thomas O'B, but two years of bad throws and excuses is enough. Bring on the new blood.

I agree. Last year our #1 WR was a converted RB, and the other WR's were sophomores and freshman with little or no experience.

Not to make excuses for TOB because he did make too many bad decisions.

We also have the Schneider kid who is a tall WR and Dom. Wright who is has very good speed. Both are Redshirt freshman this fall. Gant a Sr. might also help us this fall. Will be interesting to see how Moss fits in. The Schmidt kid from brookings is also back after an injury.

How many total rushing yards did TOB have last year? The Jacks couldn't even run a QB sneak behind an All American center. TOB will always be a pocket passer. Does that equate to winning in DI football? Look at the SD QB to the south last year. His feet won games.
Maybe SDSU needs to start recruiting thoose kind of QB's then. Sumner is in the same mild and so was Crawford. Don't know about the new freshman coming in.

I don't think the lack of success of the QB sneaks had anything to do with TOB's lack of mobility. A QB sneak is 90% on the line.

    Just a few random thoughts....

I never played qb in college, but once was the emergency qb and didn't even know it. I don't know what it is like for a college qb, but as a db, I know every year the game seemed to slow down for me (match made in heaven as I slowed down too). Part of it was being familiar and comfortable with the system, the other part was maturity. You learn how to study film better, pick up on tendecies previously overlooked, and become wiser. You also become more familar with the players around you (trust factor) which I think would be important with qb's & wr's. Can things be improved in the offseason? Sure can. Coaches are always evaluating and trying to help players improve. Spring ball is the time for coaches to get a lot of action for the younger guys to see how they are progressing while working with the veterans on the "little things". Remember some of our recent qb's who were highly praised did not hit their strides until their junior year or a couple of games into it.

With that said, does it equate to success? I don't know, but the opportunity to improve is there.

Who do you think will be the #1 and #2 receivers?

How do you account for the graduation of your two outstanding tight ends? That will be tough for the Offense to make up.

Asking the line to be even better is a lot to expect but it is the Jackrabbit way. Losing an All American Center is going to hurt more than you realize; however, the O -line should be very good.

I'm not from MO so TOB will have to show me. I'm sorry, but I just don't see it. It seemed like TOB regressed from the playoff team to last years team.

I hope I am wrong. Very much so.
From his form in his freshman year to his soph, lets just hope it was his soph slump.
