The Jackrabbit track and field teams opened up their seasons in Fargo yesterday, December 4th. BSA and school records fell when Sean Burns threw 61-10.25, nearly 3 feet better than his previous best. Jake Brinkman was third in this event as well while Burns added a second place finish in the Shot Put.. Star long sprinter Luke Leischner also had a great day. Luke beat the BSA record in the 300 meter dash running 33.36. The old BSA record was 34.10. The result would also have been a school record had Leischner been competing as a Jack- he plans to redshirt this indoor season. Other notable performances include Heather Wollman's 60m dash. Heather hasn't raced in over a year and was still able to tie the second best time in school history and miss the BSA record by .02 seconds. Brandon Priebe ran well in his first 60m hurdles since his unfortunate knee injury in 2009. Freshmen Mary Wirth jumped 5-07 in her first ever collegiate competition. Two men high jumpers were over 6-08 including Ben Jasinski and Jared Vlastuin. The latter was also the long jump champion at just over 23 feet. Calvin Cammack was only 2 inches from his all-time outdoor best in the pole vault with a 15-07 performance. Freshmen Gavin Cordell wins the triple jump in 45-05. The women's throws team also had a great day. Brooke Garner and Shelby Assmus swept 1-2 in the shot put. Jack throwers also went 2,3,5 in the weight throw.
It was a good debut for the Jacks track teams. Both teams are picked to finish third in the Summit this indoor season.
