Summit League release:
ELMHURST, Ill. - UMKC assistant athletics director for internal operations and senior woman administrator Cynthia Gabel passed away today after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 52.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our cherished colleagues," Commissioner Tom Douple said. "Cynthia was a leader in our league and will be missed by the entire membership. Her positive outlook and friendly personality touched all of us. Cynthia was always an advocate for the welfare of the student-athlete and could be found at all our events cheering them on from the stands. She was a friend to each of us and one we all turned to for advice. Our condolences go out to Cynthia’s family."
Gabel joined the UMKC staff in November 1999 and managed all compliance and student-athlete eligibility issues for UMKC’s 15 varsity sports, while also serving as the senior woman administrator. She also served as a sport supervisor for several Kangaroos sports during her time in Kansas City.
