The Huskies really made out like bandits in terms of the past couple reorg. reiterations.

I get that the MWC wanted an FBS school when they took NIU, but I'd be curious how the ADs view the move now that two schools nearer their footprint have moved to FBS.

I think NIU had two pieces to it: $12m (it's been reported that NIU only paid $2m, but it's $2m/yr for six years); and getting in the central time zone.

The details on the NIU terms are murky at best, and it doesn't really behoove the MWC to clarify because they can use the ambiguity to essentially extort prospective future conference members.

NDSU gets them in the Central Time Zone too. I suppose the flight costs might end up being a wash, but one would think their charter could make it to Fargo without as many intermediate stops as they would need to get to DeKalb, the calculus shifts when you consider Sac State could have been the other option.

There seems to be more support for the NIU terms that you cite than what I noted above. I didn't look behind X posts, which I think mainly were posts justifying what NDSU paid. NIU actually has a pretty favorable deal, which makes both the NDSU and Sac deals look worse.

It's ridiculous how much money is in play and how difficult it is to get the "truth."

I suspect the Jacks', and especially USD's/UND's, reclassification would focus on the temporary media rights fund "forfeiture" as a means to pay whatever "toll" they need to cross that bridge. Montana/MSU is an even more fascinating case because their regents require them to make whatever move they make in tandem.

Every time I read these recent reports, I am grateful we have President Dunn and Justin Sell making these decisions

Speaking of desperation , the agreement requires Sac State to pay the costs of the conference teams that have to fly to play in California.

Plus they get no conference payout for 5 years, and have to pay $6M of the $18M upfront.

That school is going to go bankrupt. What an awful decision from them.

Reportedly estimated to cost $2m-4m per year for the 5yrs.

Their GM, Dr. Shaq, is going to have to hope the Papa John's stocks perform well to recoup some of the "dough" Herky's losing.

Zim seems to think that it is a five year agreement. Not permanent. Essentially a scheduling agreement.
