Danny Freund, offensive coach, back to UND.

It strikes me as a little weird but Coach Danny Freund is apparently returning to UND.

Freund was hired by SD State (Jimmy Rogers) in January of 2024 as offensive coordinator. Prior to the move to Brookings, he played at UND (team captain 07 & 08) and coached 12 years for the Fighting Hawks -- initially coaching running backs and wide receivers and then, starting in 2018, taking on the role of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. For the 2023 season, Freund was given the title "Associate Head Coach" and I know some UND fans were guessing he was the heir apparent to Bubba Schweigert. But, Freund surprised a few with his jump to the Jackrabbits.

Freund went with the Jimmy Rogers touring group that took the bus to Washington State in late December, 2024. For reasons unknown to me, he must have stepped off the bus when it pulled out of Pullman, WA, headed for Ames, IA. Now he's back in Grand Forks.

What made the stop here more puzzling was Danny apparently didn't call plays. I suspect that when finally given the chance to call plays on Pullman, Jimmy was less than impressed and he was left behind. Ironically, or maybe not, Danny was finally able to utilize the Wazzu talent in the bowl game without a Jimmy insisting on running behind that crappy Wazzu line.
