Re: Best new beer: Grain Belt Nordeast

My wife came home with a six pack of "randomly" selected beers. Three were from Lakefront Brewery. I liked their Fixed Axel (American red ale) the best. I was hoping to pull out something from O'dell, everyone seems to like what they have had. The other two I hadn't had are Summit's Finnegans Irish Amber and Great River Brewery Pale Ale (in a can). Anybody have an opinion on the last two?

Odell makes some fine beers. Levity is more of a summer brew. Try their winter brew, Isolation Ale. Or for a real treat try Mountain Standard Mahogany Red, that is very nice.

90 schilling is probably their best beer, IMO. but I like all O'dell brews.

Had 90 Schilling for the first time tonight, enjoyed it. My next Odell beer will probably be Levity.

My wife just walked in with two six packs that are new to me. Goose Island "Mild Winter" and New Belgium "Snow Day". It's a little early, but there is football on TV and snow falling outside so what the heck.
Agree on the Third Stone, mild ale, excellent ice cold on a warm summer day.

Both are mild dark ales and good. Snow Day has a bit more complexity and a significant hop flavor while Mild Winter is well, milder with more spice notes. These set off the two different styles west and east of the Mississippi.

Had a decent beer last night - Winter Tilt from Empyrean Brewing out of Lincoln, NE. I wouldn't say it blew my socks off, but not bad either.

Try Luckey Bucket Certified Evil also out of NE. That might at least roll those socks down

This is super old but I'm digging it back up. Had Dead Guy Ale for the first time tonight, I must say I was quite impressed. It's got a nice flavor to it.

I know Rogue beers have been at select places in South Dakota for a while now (Monk's, Ben's) but it sounds like they are going to be statewide now. I'm pretty excited. This was the first time I've seen a Rogue beer in Pierre so hopefully that's true.

Also, had my first scotch ale the other week. It was always something I wanted to try but could never find any of them in Pierre. Found a 6 pack of Brau Brothers Scotch Ale and enjoyed it. I'm not sure if they even make it anymore since it was the only 6 pack they had there and I haven't seen it anyplace else.
