Chuck has done it again. He wrote a very thoughtful column about parents delievering their children to a college campus for the first time and includes dropping off young people to the military. Having grown up in Brookings, my parents never dropped me off at Brown Hall, I just walked to campus, but I do recall the departure to Omaha Nebraska on October 31, 1965. The US Navy sprung for a one way ticket to Omaha in order for me to enlist and avoid the horrible draft. I never had any family, but it sure makes me think of how my parents felt that day dropping off their youngest of nine.
How someone can mistake LBJ for Labron James is beyond me, but I came from the LBJ generation.
