  • Re: The Official USD to D-I Smack Thread

Hmmm. Why does no one want to go play in the dump at Verminville? Lack of motel space? Having to go through Sewer City, Ia to get there? The Yote fans? I can see not wanting to go to Brookings. They will get their butts kicked.

I am not happy with the schedule but I would venture to guess that USD's 2009 schedule will be at least as good and probably better than the one SDSU had in their second year of transition.

I wouldn't mind if the 2008 season was kind of used as a sacraficial lamb. The program is kind of on a downtrend over the past year so I don't really expect alot of success in 2008 anyway. Get those road games out of the way right away and look to the future.

Today I actually yelled at a kid to get off my lawn.

Actually, we just moved into new construction, so there's no lawn, not even any dirt. But the freakshow neighbors had their kids out riding an ATV in the backyard (little kids, 8 and less, with no helmets, of course, taking breaks only to jump on their trampoline... yes, trampoline). Every time that ATV ventured onto my clay "yard", I imagined them breaking their necks and me losing my house when THEY (or actually their bonehead parents) sue ME. So I shouted at them to get off my yard. (Maybe I should start a thread about the $1 million umbrella policy I'm going to buy Monday to protect myself against Mr. and Mrs. Freakshow and their kids.)

          Anyway, I feel like I'm 43 going on 70.

Just a side comment, JimmyJack...you won't be sued or, at least won't be successfully sued, under those circumstances by the brats on the ATV. On the other hand, the $1 million umbrella coverage is an excellent idea so that you don't have to think about such things.

In spite of what we seem to hear or read, the legal system is functioning quite well and while not perfect, it probably functions at a higher level than all other human-run institutions.

Sounds like a stout fence may be in order.

Yeah, Our neighbors have a trampoline for their kids, too. Got a mesh net around it that might hold a kid in. No sign of ATV's at the house next door, but as we all know, that could change at any moment.

But what really annoys me is the HUMONGOUS playground fortress (the one that includes the integral swingset, slide, climbing wall, etc.) that they decided to build less than ten feet from the fence between their back yard and ours--giving their annoying little rugrats a commanding view over the fence at my back yard.

I don't mind so much fishing the toys that the brats keep tossing into my pool. It's the "hey neighbor!" call from the crumb-crunchers, said in the insistent, impossible-to-ignore way that only an eight-year-old can master, which really torques me off.

I thought it was run by lawyers. Sorry, I couldn't resist. After all, it is a smack thread.

Haven't yet tried a case to a jury with a lawyer on it. But, sure, lawyers have a great influence on it. Some comparison could be made to medicine: I'm glad lay people aren't operating on me.

filbert and JimmyJack, turn in the names of your neighbor kids to USD's recruiters.

I've got one of those "fotresses". Doesn't provide my kids with any better view of the neighborhood than we had before. I have a screened in porch on the upper level of my walk out style range home that pretty much allows me to see all of my neighbors homes and yards regardless of the size of the fences. They playset is of course a Rainbow straight out of Brookings. The deck is 72" of the ground. I've got a Jackrabbit flag flying from the side of it. Its great, if you ask me, my kids, and the neighborhood kids. The Udot fans would like the flag to go. I'm planning to add a second one!

Jimmy Jack's neighbors are likely U grads...thus using no common sense by letting their kids ride ATV's without helmets.

Glad to hear I'm not in legal jeopardy. Next time those darned kids come on my property, I'll just strap an onion to my belt (which was the style at the time), hike my pants up just under my chest, pop a Werther's into my mouth, swallow a big swig of Geritol and take a long, 10 mph drive around the neighborhood all the while grumbling under my breath about how that crazy Rock 'n Roll music has ruined the world.

Neighbors and their kids can be annoying. I have a youngster that likes to use the slant in my driveway for his Evil Kenevil tricks, plus Dad is the big encourager with dirt bikes that are not exactly free, but never mind the mortgage payments, you have to live for now. As dad and son bond over Evil Kenevil stunts in the vacant addition near my property, you hope nothing bad happens. I do have home owners insurance, but am not about to find out if it works with a claim. Just keep telling them to keep off your property and eventually they will. You do have that right do you not JackJD? I am probably more Grampa Simpson than most of you, but hang on your time is coming. LOL.

Getting back to Smack, the Coyote Board seems to have a little life the past few days. Rumor has it that Central Florida is on their schedule for 2010. I know Central Florida was in a bowl this past year, but wonder how much money will Udot garner from that game.

Also there is a North Greenville on a future schedule, a D2 school in South Carolina. More exposure for recruiting I suppose. Southeastern USA has to be a place for picking up good recruits, but maybe not any better than say Arizonia. Each recruit stands on his own reputation.

Geez. All you "grumpy old men" out there. My ten, six, and yes soon to be four year olds are all begging in those incessant "Can you buy us a" voices for ATV's. Of course to be driven around the yard. Of which I say in reply I dont want a track in my yard and the neighbors dont want to hear those things. Moms on their side, the County Sheriff, who lives across the street doesnt care. What to do.
