Don’t forget the “We are South Dakota’s team” slogan the USD athletic dept. had right at the tail end of their DII era. I thought they should have been sued for some sort of public fraud but, of course, that couldn’t be done: there were no damages caused to anyone. People just shook their heads and chuckled.

Enough of this nonsense. Back to thinking about kicking Bison butts.
And the billboard that USD put up outside Brookings that was for a football game in Brookings.

This is really no big deal. Just like the series of cartoons that we all remember, know, and love, the coyote will keep trying all sorts of different things, but it never really affects the rabbit.

It's the type of cocky statement that has to be backed up, or it'll backfire. I get that their "mission" with this slogan is broader than beating SDSU, but it's clearly focused on being the premier home state team, which means athletic superiority over the Jacks. And if they don't do that, what's next? Back to the drawing board, and another new campaign in 4 years? Slogans are dumb to begin with, but they're extra foolish when they are hitched to on the field outcomes. If they come up here and win in November, I guess it'll pay off when they can say "See! We ARE South Dakota (for the first time in 18 years). It just seems desperate and likely to backfire, just like the 605 campaign, the FearEd campaign, the Joe Glenn campaign, and whatever else they've concocted in marketing 101 down there. Obviously, all of the campaigns aren't working too well when their ticket sales have remained stagnant.

The following was spotted on Twitter and the link forwarded to me. It’s a video clip made by a USD guy, I’m told. The guy has a pretty good sense of (sarcastic) humor and he’s offering advice for incoming USD freshmen.

On a serious note: a couple weeks ago I spent a week in Vermillion at the law school as an instructor in a course for lawyers. I made a point of driving around — lots of changes going on. Vermillion looks much better than it did a few years ago. Most notable is the available housing for students has dramatically improved with more apartments under construction.

    We are ... basically Iowa
We are ... not losing as much in football
We are ... trying our best

Have you ever compared the coyote's logos with the Lobos logos?

Marshall used it well after Penn St. Marshall didn’t even use it as depicted in the movie.

"We are Marshall" was an inspirational chant for a university that suffered a devastating plane crash and the name of a pretty good movie. Imitation is flattery, I guess.

Idk though... From what I've heard ED is still a big concern for most male USD alumni.
