Just like the women losing to Wyoming ruined their season?

Spare me your sanctimonious attitude. I will still be in the stands next winter for every game, but there is no doubt tis is going to not help SDSU.

In a couple years we can add this thread to the overreaction HOF. Just like this beauty: http://sdsufans.com/board/showthread...-Laramie/page4

His extension helps out a great deal though? He doesn't sign that extension, and we lose out on the buyout and we lose TJ still and get nothing in return.

Yoteforever obviously has emotions involved with his opinion of TJ that extend well beyond the basketball court. IMO, that clouds his judgement when it comes to opinions expressed on this board as the vast majority are what amount to constructive criticism.
Yoteforever is one of the few people from USD that I can get along with. Having choice seats at the Iowa State games allowed a friendship to develope and I found it very interesting that when Craig Smith was hired at USD, TJ was also a candidate for which Yoteforever lobbied for and I guess they will be friends for life, and no problems there. I think TJ is in for the challenge of his career at UNLV. With Tark the Shark being still in the minds of UNLV fans along with the success of Lonnie Kruger, those are huge shoes to fill. The Peter principle may be in play here. I dont know. I do wish TJ the best, I think he is a great personality and you hope it helps him in Vegas, but who knows the outcome. We shall see.

We underachieved this year in non-conf and obviously the SLT and I think it’s fair to point that out and discuss on a message board. However, I think I also praised his offense on many occasions and praised him when I agreed with other coaching decisions. Most importantly, I certainly never doubted his character or values and never crossed a line in attacking him personally, and I don’t think really anyone did that on here.

I am happy with the Otz hire in retrospect, thought he represented the university with terrific class, and him “leaving the program in a worse state” is still an open book but certainly not something I agree with as of now. Next year may be a small step back, but the program as a whole is not in a bad place in any way, shape or form. I think he is a good man and pretty good coach who could’ve coached defense better in his time here. And I think this message board largely agreed with that sentiment while also appreciating his service to Brookings and SDSU.

Thank you for sharing your perspective and I’m very happy to hear from a close source that’s Otz thoroughly enjoyed his time here. I hope he knows people had great respect for him as a family man and representative of the university.

However, I think you’d have to agree that there are several posters that havent exactly said things about T.J. that are flowering. With every loss or close game you had there’s a number of posters that were very critical of him and never backed off. T.J. was a first year Head Coach when he took your job 3 years ago. Even experienced head coaches make mistakes. And if you want to say that’s what fan boards are for, to criticize or judge, then this board is set up perfectly.

TJ will tell you the cupboard was not bare when he came. Coach Nagy had done a great job of building your program and having rosters that were competitive. But there are some ( more than 1 less than 20 ) that have criticized T.J. for not bettering the program. I’m not certain how much better anyone could’ve made SDSU given the history. Maintaining a quality program in and of itself is astonishing and hard work.

I’m extremely close to TJ and I know how much he cared for this program. When he called me 3 years ago about the opening and wanted my opinion, I almost had to swallow vomit for no other reason than the rivalry between the schools. But I told him, and as much as I wanted to lie to him, that the job there was a great opportunity with a strong fan base and a very good AD. On top of that, you had some quality players to keep your tradition going. My advice proved to be correct. I wanted T.J. to succeed and he did. But I felt now the need to defend him for what I think is unwarranted criticism by some, not all. So again, I apologize if it came across as broad brush, it was meant more to be directed towards those that in my opinion were unfair to him.

TJ did use SDSU as a paycheck and a stepping stone in his career path, just as SDSU used TJ as a coach/employee. That's just how it goes guess. I don't harbor any ill will towards TJ, I wish him the best at his new job. But don't hold your breath waiting for me to bring you my gold and help you construct a statue for him.
Then the three words shouldn’t have been posted. I’m not the one “misleading” the narrative. Your words, not mine.

All that said, I don’t expect a statue or anything else for that matter. I’m just a guy close to him that’s gonna defend him now that he’s gone. I’m glad you don’t harbor any ill will towards him as I know he doesn’t to you. He hopes you have record crops with record high prices ( then maybe a little gold for the statue? )

By the way to all of you...good luck in tonight’s women’s game. Best wishes
