Mark Mariani,a name from the Montana game we would like to forget, helped the Titans beat the Cowgirls today with a 70 yard kick return late in the game. Apparently,he also has had one return for a touchdown before today

Isn't it like an automatic two week ban for mentioning that name on SDSUfans.com?

And the only reason he got drafted by Tennessee is because he went to college with Jeff Fischer's kid. Because he really wasn't that good in college. *all in jest of course.

He had a kickoff return for a TD last week against Denver, but coughed the ball up late in the game on a kickoff that resulted in an "icing on the cake" score for Denver.

I see Stephan Logan returned a KO for a TD today also. I don't remember where he went to college though. But he fumbled a punt against the Vikings a couple of weeks ago also.

Oh the highs and lows of being a returner in the NFL.

On Marc Mariani - I got shivers when I read the name.

On Stefan Logan - little dude's got some wheels, and occasionally, butterfingers. His return today is the longest play in the NFL this year.

They actually mentioned that on the broadcast of the game. Not the only reason he got drafted part. The he went to school with Fischer's kid part.

He also recovered 2 fumbles against the Packers on special teams.

It actually surprised me that he returned the kick the whole way since in college he was fast for about 60-70 yards and then would get run down.

As for Mariani. Ugh. Stupid. ****ing. Cowboys. Goodness, I somehow hate one of my teams more than the Twins. Well done, losers.

Dont feel bad, I am a 49ers fan, and that is a box of worms I am not wanting to open.

49ers fan also. I want someone to explain to me why Singletary is not the Tim Brewster of the NFL. Lots of talk that gets the "diehards" really going, not a lot of wins. Not happy he fired the OC either, when the defense sucks as much as it does.

Didn't the OC just absolutely *botch* a bunch of playcalls the first couple games?

At any rate, yeah, he's a Brewster.

Singletary kept saying how important it was that the offense had the same coordinator two years in a row for the first time in Smith's career. Said right up until the day they fired the OC. As for "botched" calls, no more on offense than defense. First it was the players fault, then the "organization" needed to change, now the coaches & players fault. Blah, Blah, Blah.

Exactly, Smith has had everything agianst him starting his career, little talent around him, no OC more then 1 year, injuries. Its hard for him to develop to the QB they are expecting. Sadly I think the only way is to start over with new coach and QB. they look to be on path to get a great first round pick this year so maybe they can try a new QB.

Niner fan here too. I've always agreed with this assessment about Smith and thought a little continuity would do him some good. Smith getting a new OC this time around is not the same as him changing systems every season like in the past though, simply because the playbook hasn't changed, only the play caller. Unfortunately I'm really losing faith with Smith, he is the most bi-polar quarterback I've ever seen. He'll make good play after good play, then have a brain fart and oops there goes a fumble or interception at a key point in the game. It would be ok if he had a turnover or two in every game as long as he was throwing for 300+ and 3 TDs, but that just isn't a regular occurrence. I did like the fact that he showed a little meddle and stood up to Singletary when he (almost) got benched, although Vernon Davis had to motivate him to do it. Unfortunately for the Niners, Smith is basically their only option at QB this season (Niner fans chanting for David Carr have got to be delusional, as bad as Smith is, he is still the 2.0 version of David Carr).

I do think that firing Jimmy Raye and promoting Johnson to OC was a very good idea. Raye just has never been a good OC, and was not a good hire to begin with. At the end of the season they basically need to clean house as far as HC and QB.

And to get the thread back on topic of 'names from the past', hopefully the Niners keep Trent Balke, former coach at both SDSU and NDSU, in the front office. The guy did great in the Draft last spring.

That is my one regret from my time at SDSU. Balke was the D-Line coach when I committed to State and I never got to play for him. Or have Stig as my D-Coordinator.

                          Ok, two regrets.

Never stepped on the field with CatchEmAll - that would be three regrets.
