It was on this date 120 years ago that President Benjamin Harrison signed into law an Omnibus bill. In that bill, the North Dakota and South Dakota became the 39th and 40th States to enter the union.
An interesting side-note... Harrison shuffled the papers after signing them so no one would ever know which state was created first, North or South Dakota.
