USD's legendary poly sci professor and mentor to top students for decades, passed away early today. In 1998, USD set up the Farber Center for Civic Leadership and its first director and distinguished professor was our own Distinguished Professor Robert Burns, head of SDSU's political science dept. Prof. Burns was on loan from SDSU to help the Farber Center get started.
Doc Farber was a great citizen.
I was fortunate to have met him a few times. When we first met and he asked where I did my undergraduate work and I told him SDSU, he was very complimentary about my alma mater. He also had a twinkle in his eye and teased a little bit but only a little and all of it friendly!
I thought the selection of SDSU Prof. Burns to help get the Farber Center off the ground was a fitting tribute to Prof. Burns and a compliment to SDSU from colleagues down south.
