Record-setting weekend

Impressive results at the Jim Duncan Invite on Drake's track in Des Moines this weekend. Two school records: Sean Burns in the Hammer Throw (184' 10") and speedster Luke Leischner in the 400 (47.43). Many other notable and season-best Jackrabbit performances for the men and women including, for example, a 3:14:58 winning performance in the men's 4 x 400 -- nice time for an early-season meet.

A little analysis: In the 1500, five SDSU men ran 4:00.61 or faster, taking five of the top 10 places. Jared Ailts led the Jackrabbits with his second-place, 3:53.46. Many of us oldtimers are still stuck in the old non-metric world so we like to compare 1500 times to a mile. You can probably make a close comparison by adding 17 seconds to a 1500 time. So, Ailts ran about a 4:10 equivalent.

This early...that's very good. Times are going to improve as weather conditions allow for better training and meets.

The results are very encouraging and show Coach Dehaven is making great strides in building up the program.
