    John Stiegelmeier, South Dakota State

Stiegelmeier (83-59) has directed the South Dakota State program through arguably its most fruitful period in school history, and has led the Jackrabbits through their transition from Division II to the NCAA playoffs in just their second year of eligibility. The Jackrabbits finished 8-3 this season and are ranked 11th in The Sports Network poll. After winning a Great West Conference title in 2007 and finishing third in the Missouri Valley Conference in 2008, SDSU played Southern Illinois for the MVFC title this season, falling short, 34-15. The only other losses for the Jackrabbits were a 16-13 near-upset of FBS Minnesota and a 21-14 setback at Cal Poly, when SDSU lost its starting quarterback early in the game. South Dakota State beat Northern Iowa when the Panthers were ranked in the top 10 nationally. Stiegelmeier led the Jackrabbits to their first eight-win season since 1999. The Jackrabbits lead the country in pass efficiency defense and rank fifth in scoring defense. This is Stiegelmeier's second appearance on the Robinson Award list. He finished 18th in 2007.
