Hope kicking on turf had nothing to do with hip pain.

I hope it is not the start of bigger issues for Vinatieri. It has been a pleasure to follow his career going all the way back to the SDSU days. I am planning on following it for several more years, so I hope this procedure gets him straightened out.

Must be the "Tommy John" surgery for kickers. Actually though, you never really hear of kickers having knee surgery, it seems like it would be more common.

Kicking a ball is a much more natural motion than say...throwing a baseball, which is extremely hard on your arm. A slow motion video of someone throwing a baseball demonstrates how violent it is.

Look at fast pitch softball pitchers. They can throw multiple games in a day.....baseball players can't. Fast pitching a softball is much easier on the arm.

That is true....on a Twins broadcast once, the played Neshek pitching is slow motion. The guy has a goofy looking motion anyway, but when it was slowed down, it just made you cringe.

Underarm is the more natural motion in the arm. You are not fighting the joint and the bones on top. Throwing overarm the muscles and tendons have to move around those bones which opens them up to tears, strains and the bone of the arm rubbing against the others.
