  • RIP: Bill Davidson Pistons Owner

The owner of the Detroit Pistons, Shock, Palace Entertainment, and formerly the Tampa Lightning passed away Friday. I met him at a Shock game a couple years ago.
Great guy. He will be missed in the Detroit area.

DETROIT -- Local 4 sources confirm Bill Davidson died Friday. The 86-year-old Pistons owner has been in declining health for the last few years.
Representatives would not confirm Davidson’s cause of death.
Davidson was one of the most successful owners in professional sports history.
He bought the Pistons in 1974, for $7 million. Today, that franchise is estimated to be worth nearly $300 million.
Davidson’s love of the game ran deep. He sat courtside at nearly every Pistons home game.
And his drive and desire are credited with helping the Pistons win three championships.
Davidson also owned the Detroit Shock, which has won two championships, and in 2004 he owned the Tampa Bay Lightning when they won the Stanley Cup.
