  • New Degree in Enology at NDSU

During last night's NDSU v SDSU basketball game, I took a look at Bisonville. Several of the posts caused me to do a little research into the degrees offered at NDSU. Finally it makes sense: NDSU offers a bachelor of science degree out of its school of Arts and Sciences, in "Viticulture and Enology" (whine making).

The course description on NDSU's website states that NDSU's unique program offers research and study opportunities to freshmen and sophomores that qualify them to immediately whine during and after sporting events, irrespective of whether they win or lose! The first graduates of the new program received degrees at the Spring Commencement Excercises which preceded the first Dakota Marker Game.

Older graduates of the school are not as likely to whine but the younger ones seem to be flocking to the courses. The courses are so popular, they are being offered through the internet but one must have a North Dakota driver's license and proof of a strong connection with NDSU to enroll. A few years ago, North Dakota residents associated with UND were permitted to take the courses but UND students, grads and fans are no longer allowed to enroll because, while it was originally thought UND could whine with the best of them, time has proved that the new crop of Bison fans may be the best whiners ever.
