good showing at a tough D 1 open
Elliot is wrestling really good right now...had a bad first match but beat some quality kids to come back and get 3rd

Cedar Falls, Iowa — The South Dakota State wrestling team placed three wrestlers at the Univeristy of Northern Iowa Open Sunday at the McLeod Center. No team scores were kept.

Scott Elliot continued his winning ways taking home a third-place finish. The 184-pound freshman from Derby, Kan. dropped his first match before reeling off three-consecutive wins including two pins on the afternoon. This marks the third-consecutive open meet Elliot has finished third or better.

Watertown, S.D. native Aaron Pickrel finished sixth at the open, compiling a 2-3 record in the 125 pound class. Pickrel fell in his first match before going 1-1, advancing him to the fifth-place match where he fell to Grant Sutter of UNI for sixth place.

Heavyweight Jason Stripling of Minneota, Minn. opened the match with a pair of victories before dropping his final three decisions for a sixth place finish.

The team will return to action after the holiday break when they take on Delaware State and Virginia Military Institute January 7 in Dover, Del.

good showing from the team. was expecting a better showing from Jason Stripling, hope he really turns it on soon. really great to see the freshman doing so well, Scott Elliot just keeps on winning. looks to be a really tough kid. Pickrel also seems to have what it takes to be a really good wrestler.

I too am a little disappointed in Stripling. Hopefully he can get it going. He is a much better wrestler than he has shown this year.

He wasn't at this tournament. He attended the Dragon Open, which he won his weight class, hosted by Morehead St.
