We were in Brookings for baseball parents weekend. The guys actually played a game in that wind. Unbelievable!! We noticed on the way out that of the bleachers in the south endzone of CAS, one had blown up against the supports of the scoreboard and most of the rest of them were in various stages of collapse. Guess it could have been worse based on what happened at Howard Wood.

A lot of fixtures and trees are laying flat in Bismarck, too. It wasn't anywhere near as bad as how SD got hit, though. I was wondering a little bit about how CAS did in the wind, specifically the east bleachers. Maybe some good came out of it - did it blow the rest of the paint chips off?*

*sorry - just can't let that go

This damage really surprised me. SD is in a 90 MPH wind zone and by the reports I have seen the winds were no where near that. Either some engineer (or contractor) made a significant error or the winds were significantly higher than reported.

Something is really weird about what happened......just doesn't make sense a 60 MPH wind brings that stuff down.

Re: Wind blowing through South Dakota

The wind sunday blew over about a 30 ft chunk of our wood fence surrounding our backyard, and busted a couple support posts on the opposite side as well. It was getting to be an old POS fence and we were talking of replacing it anyway, but it may be sooner that we had originally planned now.

That reminds me, I was going to go check the shingles but forgot.

There are a lot of times I miss not living in SD. The wind is a constant reminder of maybe its not all bad to live in WI where there are such things as trees and shelter. Granted we were socked with 120+ inches of snow last year, but it rarely blew the snow around.

Then again, SD doesn't have income tax....
