Not sure where to put this but decided to throw it in here. The Volante has a sports blog and they recently talked about the SDSU/USD rivalry. here is the link http://volantesports.wordpress.com/2...d/#comment-651

and here is my response since I'm not sure if they will post it or not:
I completely disagree with everything you said. "To say this game doesn’t need to be played for both teams to have success is just pure ignorance" yet it doesn't. SDSU is in one of the best football conferences in FCS, has been ranked all year until recently, had their largest crowd ever at a football game and in the state of South Dakota last Nov 17. Their women's basketball team has made it the WNIT in back-to-back years only because they couldn't make it to the real dance since they weren't eligible, they were the first transitioning team to make the WNIT period. SDSU's first baseball win came against Notre Dame and Jeff Samardzija, you know the one that plays for the Cubs now. Sure their men's basketball team is struggling but that has nothing to do with us not playing USD.

This rivalry has a lot of respect?? Are you on crack? USD fans took a dump in the SDSU locker room the last time they played...looks like a lot of respect to me.

USD was getting wins the last few years against a watered down NCC, the football team can't beat anyone outside of the dome.

Also how about we wanted to play you when we were transitioning and you pretty much flipped us the bird and said not gonna happen? USD did this to themselves

I hope he does another blog entry when USD averages over 11,000 attendance for the course of a season when the dump holds only 10k.

I also noticed the author broke out the first 3 years attendance for us, but failed to include years 4 and 5... I wonder why.

My favorite was when time ran backwards for the 2005 season and Northern Colorado became the season opener instead of the mid-Nov closer.

I noticed this as well. I knew N. Colorado wasn't the home opener in recent years. Thanks for reassuring me!

It's difficult to judge a rivalry based on the actions of a select few individuals. On that same night SDSU fans threw things on the court to cause USD to get technical fouls in Vermillion. Should we judge all SDSU fans on a few fans actions. If rivalries were judged on just the very select few bad apples there would never be any rivalries played. I have seen and heard some very vulger behavior from SDSU fans. It goes both ways so don't think it is just USD fans doing bad things.

CF if this same night you are talking about was the night it was proven that the skittles and m&ms thrown at our girls came from your fans as well as the after technicals (baby carrots) I believe...we are only allowed three rows behind our bench at Coyote games (reserved for parents and friends of the program), on the opposite end of the court. Considering that these violation came directly from the side court on the opposite end, which is a see of red, do you not think it would have been easy to point out those said offenders if they were wearing "Blue" or "Yellow". Thats right they were secretly wearing red "Beat State not your Wife" shirts like everyone else in the dump including the staff.

All other tickets sold to SDSU backers are in the nose bleed, boring, bring a book because you feel like your watching the game on TV section. This is the same night the wrong doers were fingered and pointed out to your AD as well as the rent-a-cops and got escorted to the door and allowed back in.

You have a tendency to keep trying to point the finger back at SDSU because you can not let it go...secretly you just would rather be a Rabbit then one of the gang that thought we should of never made the move in the first place and are perfectly happy to stay at the Div.II level and become the "Princton on the Prairie". We all know what happened with that grand idea.

You spend entirely to much time on this blog instead of your own which goes to prove you must be "Blue" and "Yellow" on the inside...Shed the RED, Welcome to the DEN you "Wascally Wabbit"

I think Jacks#1Fan is just trying to point out that the kind of juvenile behavior that might have been wink-and-nudge material in the past is no longer acceptable. Had you attended one of our events in the past several years, you'd see that security has been enhanced, opposing teams are separated from our fans, and the singling out of individuals by fans has clearly been frowned upon. The administration has set a tone: They want opposing teams treated well. That doesn't mean you can't cheer FOR your team. But the kind of stupid stuff that happened in the past would not be tolerated anymore. I've heard our student fans griping about how their bonehead, drunken antics got them tossed out. From my perspective, that's a good thing.

I realize that CF prefers to assume there is no difference at D1 vs. D2. One difference is that conferences are unlikely to consider schools for membership unless they have assurances that student athletes and fans will be treated well in the new environment. That doesn't mean USD can't clean it up. But the first step in kicking bad behavior is to admit you have a problem. I'm not sure your administration and fans have yet done that.
                Holy nutmeg!

SDSU and NDSU are rivals and they don't have any "bad apples". SDSU doesn't need to put up camera's and hire extra security when they play each other. It's made of 2 classy teams that want to beat each other more than anybody else on their schedule but when they play anybody else, you want the other team to win.

I said it once and I say it again. There's something in the water that they drink in Verminville that makes them act strangely. When I was in high school and we played Verminville we got treated the same way that State was treated. I even got chased out of town one night. It might be the extra expired meds that JackMD prescribes that gets flushed down the drains in Yankton by people done with it that ends up in the water or something. (Just kidding JackMD)

You couldn't be more wrong. I am not the one that "can't let it go", that applies to several SDSU fans, speaking of the night of the last basketball game between the two schools in Vermillion.

That's because he doesn't have anyone to play with on his board. Granted he ruffles a lot of feathers over there too.

Because that wouldn't have anything to do with SDSU and therefore wouldn't be newsworthy to the folks at the U.
God's knows at this point playing SDSU is all that matters down south.

It's hillarious listening to them just pulling their hair out about not getting their beloved State/U game back.

Typical USD fan thinking: "Why would've we made the move to D-1 if we still don't get to play the Bunnies???"
