Re: Seven Straight Days of Coverage of SDSU-ISU Game

Well I always thought playing a team like Iowa St. would be good for the athletic department because of the guarantee money. But getting seven consecutive days of articles in the Argus Leader will also be a big boost in exposure for SDSU also. It is like free advertising. Weather the football team wins or loses the game to me is irrelevant, SDSU has already won just by playing the game. Of course winning the game would be a nice feather in our cap also.

    Go State!!!

Re: Seven Straight Days of Coverage of SDSU-ISU Game

It's great that we are having some big coverage for the ISU game but we should. This is a big deal! Plus, an upset is certainly within reach.

The coverage that teams like Nebraska get is absolutely enormous. Sections of the papers are dedicated to game day and there is a page about the team everyday. There's now way SDSU is going to get there but if they continue their winning ways and can start to build a tradition at D1 than it is conceivable that you couldn't open the Argus during football season and not find an article about the Jacks.

If there is interest, they'll cover it to the extent of that interest!

Hats off to TV again for doing such a great job covering SDSU!

Here is the link to the first page story for Sunday. It is a very nice article on the excitement surrounding the first game against a Big 12 team in decades. As usual, Terry does a great job.

Re: Seven Straight Days of Coverage of SDSU-ISU Game

FCS wins about 10% of their games against FBS. Usually, success has come against struggling FBS schools (such as Iowa St.), in opening games (App St. win at Michigan), by teams in the upper part of the FCS (top 25 team).

We are well positioned to be VERY competitive in this game and pull out a win.

Here is the second article from Terry about the upcoming game.

In a sense, this fall marks the start of a new era for South Dakota State. School officials hope to be able to schedule games against Football Bowl Subdivision programs - like the one slated for Thursday at Iowa State - on an annual basis now that the NCAA Division I reclassification is complete.

                Day 3 on SDSU/ISU coverage.

"Almost across the board, people have approached it like, 'Big game, a fun game, but we're going to win,' " said Stiegelmeier, who is in his 12th year at his alma mater. "There have been some mistakes where coaches were concerned about the big guys versus their guys, but I think our program is well-established enough that we don't have to do that."
