    A Stu Whitney article that I actually enjoyed. He talks about how the SDHSAA was smart for changing the high school girls VB and BB seasons around considering the mess out in Michigan. Take a read if it interests you:

    To all those who thought South Dakota should have fought against switching its high school girls basketball and volleyball seasons five years ago, take a look at the mess in Michigan.

    That state's activities association was the last holdout in this gender-equity battle, despite clear precedent of federal courts finding non-traditional seasons for girls to be in violation of Title IX and the 14th Amendment.

    The MHSAA refused to settle a discrimination lawsuit and - surprise! - lost at trial. Last spring, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the association's final appeal, forcing the state to shuffle seasons in time for 2007-08.

    But the biggest blow was yet to come.

    Earlier this month, a judge ordered the MHSAA to pay the plaintiff's legal bills, which add up to $7.4 million. Since the association has a net worth of less than $6 million (and used liability insurance to pay its own lawyers), it may have to declare bankruptcy.
