South Dakota State University golf coach Jared Baszler announced the signings and two men and two women to a National Letter of Intent, indicating they will enroll at South Dakota State University in the fall and compete for the Jackrabbits.

Signing on the men’s side were Sioux Falls native Brian Wynia and Mitchell Zaba from Deer Valley, Saskatchewan.

Wynia posted top-six individual finishes in both 2006 and 2007 to earn Class AA all-tournament team recognition at the state meet. An academic all-state selection, he played on Roosevelt High School’s state championship team in 2005. In summer events, Wynia is a two-time participant in the USGA Junior Amateur and placed in the top 20 at the 2007 South Dakota Golf Association Men’s Amateur Championship. He also was first alternate behind current Jackrabbit golfer Geoff Mead to qualify for the USGA Public Links Championship in 2007.

On the women’s side, Deuel High School standout Brittany Hanten and Rebecca Swords from Rosemount, Minn., signed with the Jackrabbits.

Hanten enters her senior season with five Class B state tournament appearances, including a fourth-place finish in 2006 and sixth-place effort in 2007. The Goodwin native also has posted a pair of top-10 finishes at the SDGA Junior Championship, along with a runner-up finish at the 2007 Wells Fargo Open and top-15 effort at the 2007 SDGA Women’s Amateur Championship. A member of the National Honor Society, Hanten also has competed in basketball and volleyball.

Swords has qualified for each of the last two Minnesota AA state tournaments for Rosemount High School. A two-time all-Lake Conference selection, she finished as runner-up at the 2006 Section 1AA Tournament with a school-record 74. During the summer, Swords has qualified for the Westfield Junior tournament four consecutive years and picked up one victory on the PGA Junior Players Tour in 2007 en route to a 12th-place finish out of 53 players.
