  • Honor Society Players

    I wanted to recognize several of our football players who have received another honor. The National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society has recognized Paul Aanonson, Matt Anderson, Parker Douglass, Mitch Erickson, Andrew Hoogeveen, and Cory Koening.

    Only one other football player from South Dakota was recognized, Trey Erickson from USF. NDSU has 3 honorees, UND 1.

    Qualifications for membership in the inaugural NFF National Honor Society include:

    * Being a starter or a significant substitute in one’s last year of eligibility at an accredited NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III, or an NAIA college or university;

    * Achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and

    * Meeting all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.

    This speaks VOLUMES about the football program at SDSU, especially as it compares to any other program in the region at any level of competition.

    Yet another example of how moving to DI has destroyed the academic standards at SDSU. What the heck were we thinking?

      Yet another example of the job our coaches have done in recruiting good people that are also good players.

        I believe this is an area that coach Stig will always excel in...whether we're winning or not.

          I know the title is MSU but if you read the last paragraph you'll see who is #1 and no surprise it's SDSU.

          Five Montana State University seniors earned induction into the National Football Foundation's Hampshire Honor Society, announced by the NFF Wednesday, second-most among NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision schools. Bobcat seniors Kyle Begger, Jordan Craney, Dustin O'Connell, Michael Rider and Tanner Ripley earned the prestigious honor.

          The Hampshire Honor Society honors college football players from all four-year schools who maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. This year, 671 players from 241 schools earned induction, with MSU's five players comprising half of the total number of players from the Big Sky Conference. Players must be starters or important reserves who meet progress toward graduation.

          Montana State stands as one of 68 schools with five or more players so honored. Only South Dakota State (eight), North Dakota (five), Holy Cross (five) and Wofford (five) join the Bobcats as the only scholarship-granting FCS schools in the group.
