    Nice story by TV on Mr. Bartling. I think I bought my first pair of Nike shoes from him in 1972 when I was a freshman at SDSU. He sold them out of the basement of his furniture store.

    When Jack4Life and I were freshmen at SDSU in 1972-73, Nike was the new kid on the running-shoe block which had been, up to that point, owned primarily by Adidas and next by Puma and a few others. Bob Bartling was one of the fledgling company's earliest dealers.

    Bob Bartling knows runners all across the country. If you have an opportunity to attend the Drake Relays, one of the top two or three track meets in the USA, buy a program and you'll see that the Men's 10,000 meter invitational run at the Drake Relays is sponsored by Bob Bartling.
