MINNEAPOLIS – The South Dakota State University women’s tennis doubles team of Jenny Sondreal and Nellie Bloomberg reached the finals of their flight as the Jackrabbits wrapped up competition at the 2007 Gopher Invitational on Sunday.

Sondreal, a senior from Huron, and Bloomberg, a freshman from Pierre, were defeated by the Northern Iowa team of Ashton Schwerin and Diana Mendez, 8-2, in Sunday’s championship match. The Jackrabbit duo advanced to the finals with a victory over the mixed team of Kylie Adamek of Louisiana State and Iowa State’s Dora Losonczy in semifinal action on Saturday.

SDSU’s other doubles team in the Star flight, Caitlin Brannen and Carrie Jansen, finished in fourth place. The Jackrabbit tandem were upended in semifinal action by the same UNI team that won the tournament, then were ousted in the third-place match.

The Jackrabbits went winless in singles action Saturday and Sunday, following a victory from Carrie Jansen in the Minnesota Flight on Friday.

SDSU returns to the courts next weekend at the Drake Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa.
