  • Pick your e-mail name carefully

A Kansas City Star story discusses how recruiters pre-judge e-mail job applications based on the e-mail address from which the application was sent:

Kevin Tamanini, a doctoral candidate at Ohio University, wanted to know the effect, if any, of an e-mail address on a job applicant’s chances. His findings are considered significant enough that they’ll be presented later this month at the annual conference of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.

The study cemented what you might expect: Nonquirky e-mail addresses improve the odds of surviving an applicant flood.
I'm not sure how that relates to discussion board names . . . is it a bad thing, for instance, to have a nickname which refers to a small, white nut?

I think you are in the clear for this one. I can think of many nicknames far less appealing than a small white nut.
