Fans of live theater get an extra week of shows in Brandon this summer.

Prairie Repertory Theatre of Brookings, now in its 37th season, will perform three weeks at the Brandon Performing Arts Center, with four shows playing July 18 to Aug. 5.

If you can't wait until next month, the South Dakota State University-based troupe kicks off the season in Brookings on Wednesday.

"It was our first season in Brandon last summer, and it was just a terrific two weeks," says J.D. Ackman, managing director. "We were very pleased with the turnout, the response was good, so we will give more people a chance to come to the shows during a third week."

The troupe moved to Brandon last year after a 35-year summer run at Dakota State University in Madison, where attendance had been declining for the past decade.

The season includes the performances of "Dames at Sea," "Escanaba in Da Moonlight," "Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean" and "The King and I."  .  .  .  (read more)
