  • Division I Independent Baseball Tournament

Up first for the Jackrabbits are the Bears from New York Tech.  The Bears are 23-23 on the year.  Last year SDSU split with NYIT.  Here is a link to their Baseball site:

    http://www.nyit.edu/athletics/baseball/index.html

Other schools that SDSU will face in Orem (home of Utah Valley State), UT include -- Chicago State, Northern Colorado, and NJ Tech. SDSU's games can be heard on the Jackrabbit Baseball radio network and the internet.  Best of luck to our Jackrabbits!

Game vs. NYT is underway. This is the LAST D-1 Independent tournament SDSU will participate in. What a beautiful thing.

I guess there's no such thing as a mercy rule in the post-season!

How exactly does this "tournament" work. I know we have four games scheduled, is it that whoever has the best record in their four games wins the tournament or is there some sort of playoff between the top two teams? Doesn't seem much like a tournament if they don't have some sort of bracket.

There is no mercy rule in NCAA baseball any time. They play the full nine innings.

Wow, the Jacks really took it to them today. 19 - 3 I like this quote from the GoJacks.com site.

SDSU got into the New York Tech bullpen early as Bear starter Eric Johnson failed to record an out. The first eight Jackrabbit hitters reached safely, including six against Johnson, who was lifted after allowing back-to-back home runs to Lewis — the grand slam — and Craig Parry.

Steve Faulkner did not fare much better as he was relieved after two-thirds of an inning, giving up three earned runs. NYIT pitchers hit four batters in the first inning and six in the game, including Korby Mintken, who was hit by a pitch three times in the game by three different pitchers.

Sounds like the NYIT pitchers were a little wild today.

                    Go State!!! 8-) 8-) 8-)

SDSU strikes big again at Independent Tournament

OREM, Utah – Korby Mintken and Tony Martin each homered twice and drove in six runs as the South Dakota State University baseball team’s offensive onslaught continued Thursday in a 20-2 victory over Chicago State (Ill.) at the Division I Independent Tournament.

Matt Bowman pitched his fifth complete game of the season for the Jackrabbits, who improved to 33-18 overall with their eighth consecutive victory. Chicago State dropped to 4-51.  .  .  .  (read more)

You did see that Chicago State is 4-51? The Bandits could probably beat them.
