    USF 'happy' with NAIA
    School not ready for Division II - yet

    South Dakota State University and now the University of South Dakota have taken the Division I plunge.

    Augustana marched to the precipice of the D-I ledge, only to back off and decide Division II was its proper place.

    With all those changes, sports fans might be looking at the University of Sioux Falls to also make a switch, but the Cougars don't seem in a hurry to do so.

    "We're happy with where we're at," said USF athletic director Willie Sanchez. "In the last three years, we've competed for national championships in football, basketball, softball, tennis, track and field and softball. Those elements are important to the total experience at USF."

    Sanchez and USF president Mark Benedetto have both admitted the Cougars have interest in one day moving to NCAA Division II.

    However, the recent number of classification and league shifts in the Midwest doesn't appear to be have changed the school's plans. . . . (read more)
