    Need a Cinderella team to root for? Consider Wyoming

    CHEYENNE, Wyo. - March Madness fans looking for a Cinderella team to root for in the final days of the college basketball season can find it in the WNIT.

    With no real surprise teams still playing in the NCAA men's and women's tournaments, the Wyoming Cowgirls, who went all season without ever being ranked in any of the major polls, have made an improbable run in the Women's National Invitation Tournament, winning all five of their games and breaking school records for wins and attendance in the process.

    Wyoming (26-9) plays for its first postseason women's basketball title on Saturday when it hosts Wisconsin (23-12). The Badgers, of the mighty Big Ten, were WNIT runners-up in 1999 and won the tournament in 2000.  

    The postseason run by the Cowgirls has generated unprecedented interest in the women's basketball program that not too long ago used to give out free game tickets. Four years ago, in Wyoming coach Joe Legerski's first year at the helm, the university sold just 16 season tickets to the women's games.  .  .  . (read more)
