  • What a coincidence..

The past three years Rutgers has lost to Tennessee in the NCAA tourney..in the 2005 tourney, it was in the Elite Eight, in 2006 it was the Sweet Sixteen, now this year it was the national championship..Essence Carson and Matee Ajavon were starters on those teams all three years.. hmm! Will Rutgers get the payback next yeaR?

What about Don Imus calling the Rutgers team "nappy headed hoes"?

Our SDSU lost to Rutgers during the 2004-05 season by (19)? I think..hmmm...some interesting stuff

Imus is a moron, at least on this issue. If he was almost anyone else in radio, his comment would have gotten him fired already--or at least a mandated two-week vacation in which to contemplate his error.

Regarding Rutgers . . . C. Vivian Stringer is a women's basketball coaching legend and a close friend of Pat Summitt. I'd guess SDSU's win against her team in 04 bought the Jackrabbits as much credibility as any D-I win except maybe the Middle Tennessee win this year. If you're going to get knocked out of the NCAA tournament, it might as well be to Tennessee.

Rutgers' main problem was that they were a team that relied on defense who ran into a Tennessee team that could match their defensive play, and had more offensive weapons than Rutgers could put on the floor. Once they got down to Tennessee they weren't coming back.

Rutgers needs to develop more offensive punch if they want to be a serious title contender next year. The Lady Vols lose only one starter (Sidney Spencer, a tall forward but mainly a 3-point specialist) so they'll be loaded again in 2007-08.

It's kind of a shame that Imus' big mouth is a bigger story than Rutgers' run to the championship game, or Summitt's and Tennessee's seventh national championship in 26 years. That's starting to get into UCLA/Wooden territory--not ten in a row, but still, pretty remarkable for any program in any NCAA D-I sport.
