BROOKINGS – After five years of planning, a $4.3 million dollar aquatic center is now open in Brookings, and to one anxious swim fan, it couldn’t have opened soon enough.

“I wished I had a video camera to record this one boy who came up to me when we opened,” said Marc Richards, Brookings Parks and Recreation superintendent.

“He approached me and said, ‘Hey! Do you own this place?’ To which I responded, ‘No, I just help run it.’

“The boy, who was probably around 10 years old, said to me, ‘This place is awesome!’ He high-fived me, and ran off,” Richards said.

According to Parks and Rec officials, the Hillcrest Aquatic Center has drawn thousands of visitors since it opened June 5.  .  .  . (read more)

Glad to see the new aquatic facility open after a busy off-season (fall thru spring) period of construction. Ammenities such as this always make it easier for SDSU to recruit top-notch faculty, staff, and students!
