    Brookings kids get top marks on ACTs, SATs test

    For parents wondering whether their children are receiving an adequate education in the Brookings School District, wonder no more: statistics show that Brookings' schools rate among the best in South Dakota.
    According to a press release issued by Brookings School District Superintendent Orville Creighton, test results from the 2005-2006 school year prove that quality education exists for students in Brookings public schools.
    On average, Brookings students who took the ACT (formerly the American College Test) during the 2005-2006 school year scored a 23.6, which was the school's highest score ever and the highest among South Dakota's larger schools. Brookings also posted an average score of 23.3 in the 2003-2004 school year – the best that year among all South Dakota schools – and had the highest percentage of students taking the test.
    Normally those two factors would work together to produce a lower average score, but Creighton said that the statistics only reinforce the quality of curriculum in Brookings. . . . (read more)
