      Wagstrom, Connot Sign
Two South Dakota State players have signed free agent contract with National Football League teams.

Tackle Andy Wagstrom, 6-5, 295, from Faribault, MN, signed with the Miami Dolphins and safety Scott Connot, 6-3, 210, from Spencer, NE, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Wagstrom earned second-team all-North Central Conference after his senior season and participated in the Cactus Bowl (Division II all-star game) at Kingsville, TX. He was a four-year letterman for the Jacks.

Connot earned first-team all-conference honors as a senior after leading SDSU in tackles for the second straight year. Also an academic all-conference selection, he was earlier awarded an NCAA postgraduate scholarship.

Connot played in 34 games in his career and finished with 234 tackles, 18 passes broken up and eight interceptions. As a senior, he had 94 tackles, four interceptions and nine passes broken up.

It was just reported on the SDSU website that Ben Studer also signed. No idea who the team might be. Three players in one year is not bad and it will only get better.

          Re: Andy Wagstrom

When you see the number of people on the Jacks who are being recognized with superior talent it reminds me that we underachieved last year based on the talent we had. Two games we should have won Winona and UND would have put us in the playoffs and a gaudy record. The talent wasn't the problem/the coaching was.

            SDSU lineman signs with Dolphins

            From Staff Reports

            published: 4/27/2004

            Wagstrom agrees to free-agent deal . . .

Wagstrom, a 6-5, 295-pound offensive lineman from Faribault, Minn., said this chance fulfills a dream.

"Every kid dreams of playing in the NFL," Wagstrom said. "I'm excited to go down there and prove myself."

Wagstrom played all three line positions with the Jacks, and is projected to be a guard with the Dolphins.

Miami drafted three offensive lineman during the two-day draft.

As with many prospects all across the country, Wagstrom's NFL allegiance changed with a phone call. He grew up a Minnesota Vikings fan, but said he and his family are now Dolphin fans.

Wagstrom gets his first taste of life with the Dolphins this weekend when he goes to Miami for a weekend mini-camp. . . .

            Go State! ;D
