    9. Cal Poly (5-0) vs. Texas State (2-3)
4 p.m., Mustang Stadium (cap. 8,500, natural grass), San Luis Opisbo, CA
    Radio: KXTY (99.7 fm)
    Series: First meeting
Last Week: Fla. Atlantic 20, Texas State 13; Cal-Poly 24, So. Utah 17
Coaches: TXST’s David Bailiff: 2-3 (1st season as a head coach)
    Cal-Poly’s Rich Ellerson: 21-17 (4th year at CP) 25-24 (5th year overall)
Notes: Texas State has lost each of its three games by seven points this season. Included are defeats at Division I-A Baylor (24-17) and last week against Florida Atlantic, a team transitioning to I-A, which took a 20-13 win. The other was a 41-34 loss at I-AA top-20 Appalachian State. Texas State leads the Southland Conference with 249.4 yards rushing per game. Texas State is the lone SLC team to hit all of its extrapoint attempts this season. Steven Dietz is a perfect 17-of-17 for the Bobcats on his tries, but has made just 5-of-12 field goals. Texas State’s Fred Evans had six tackles, including four for losses and a pair of quarterback sacks in the Bobcats' loss to Florida Atlantic. With FAU driving late in the first half, Evans forced a fumble inside the 30 which Texas State recovered to keep the Bobcats within a score of the Owls heading into halftime. He added to his Southland Conference lead in both sacks and tackles for losses. Evans now has 10 tackles for losses totaling 39 yards and 4.5 sacks for another 26 markers. Southland teams have posted a 5-1 record against NCAA I-AA top-25 teams this year.

    10. Stephen F. Austin (4-1) at # 21 UC Davis (5-0)
3:00 p.m., Toomey Stadium, Davis, Calif.

Coaches: SFA’s Mike Santiago: 37-23 (7th year at SFA)
UCD’s Bob Biggs: 101-34-1 (12th year at UCD)
Notes: A pair of NCAA I-AA top-25 teams square off. Stephen F. Austin is ranked No. 10 in this week’s Sports Network poll, down five spots after losing last weekend. SFA suffered its first loss of the season last week when Florida International took a seven-point decision in Nacogdoches. It’s the final tuneup for the Lumberjacks before opening Southland Conference play next weekend at Texas State. SFA has scored 24 points in each of its last four games. UC-Davis is in its second season as an NCAA I-AA member. The Lumberjack defense allowed 199 yards rushing and three touchdowns by Rashod Smith last weekend. SFA managed 92 yards rushing as a team, but threw for 311 yards, including 294 by Michael Williams. Migue Toulon had a 100-yard receiving day for the Lumberjacks on five receptions. SFA did not commit a turnover last week and has thrown just one interception on the year. That came in the season-opening win over Henderson State. Lumberjack quarterbacks have just the one pick in 150 pass attempts. Southland teams have posted a 5-1 record against NCAA I-AA top-25 teams this year.
