FOOTBALL RANKINGS
South Dakota State is ranked 37th in the final Gridiron Power Index compiled by the www.I-AA.org web site. The GPI is compiled using all the available polls from IAA football. The rankings include all 117 Division IAA teams. The Great West Football Conference, in its first year, finished as the second-ranked conference, behind the Atlantic 10. National champion James Madison is ranked No. 1 overall with William and Mary second and Montana third. SDSU will play at Montana on Sept. 17. Montana lost to James Madison is the national championship game. The GWFC finished with a 29.39 rating, behind the Atlantic 10 at 19.31 but ahead of the Southland Conference, third at 31.32, and the Big Sky, fourth at 32.11.
