Bobcats release 2005 football schedule

SAN MARCOS - Seven home games and a road date at Texas A&M highlight Texas State University's 2005 football schedule released Wednesday.
"It is an attractive schedule which is both competitive and gives our fans an opportunity to see our team nine times within the state of Texas," said Texas State director of athletics Larry Teis. "We scheduled seven home games to give this football team every opportunity to be successful."
Texas State played just five home games last year, including two against Division I-A opponents. This year the Bobcats will play four nonconference games in Bobcat Stadium.
Texas State opens the season Sept. 3 against a Delta State team which was 6-4 a year ago and finished the year by winning three straight. The Statesmen finished the 2003 season ranked 16th nationally and won the Division II national championship in 2000.
The Bobcats play host to Southern Utah the second week of the season in a game which will mark the third meeting between the two programs in the past four years. Texas State defeated Southern Utah 49-19 in 2002 before suffering a 31-28 loss to the Thunderbirds in 2003. Southern Utah is a member of the Great West Football Conference.
After a September open date, the Bobcats play at Texas A&M on Sept. 24. The game will mark the third against a Big 12 opponent for Texas State. The 'Cats played at Oklahoma State in 2000 and traveled to Missouri in 2001.
Texas State will also play host to Great West member South Dakota State (Oct. 1) and Panhandle State (Oct. 15) in nonconference home games. . . .
