    Re: Official Countdown Thread

Below is from last year, should give an idea in what holes we need to fill. In looking at it we are really young. Big and young, could use some speed. All holes are fillable, qb is hardest as Kardoes is untested, only touched the ball 55 times last year. But running game will be better this year has we have three backs that will see the ball a lot and Kardoes can run (but we need him to be a passer)

I wonder if an option attack will play a smart part in next year's team with all of that speed at QB. There is obviously an added risk for injury, but I think the upside of having that kind of mobility is there. A QB draw is obviously a weapon we'll use, IMO. Thoughts?

I do believe Andy will be the QB next year. But both Ryan Berry abd Reed Burckhardt have very good arms. Berry has the potenial to be a very good quarterback. Andy has a gun for an arm also, just didn'y have to use it last year...I think we will be just fine

206 days to kick-off. No way I have thought about SDSU football this early in the year. The lack of women's BB games right now and the debacle on the court by the men Sunday make it easier to think FB.

I'd say it's pretty safe to say that under the Daly and then Stig tenure SDSU has done a great job of developing QBs. My senior year, Dan Fjeldheim was redshirting and played the Scout Team QB. To say he struggled would be to put it mildly. Needless to say, after a couple years of tutelage he became the QB who was putting up huge numbers his senior year. Change the facts a little and you see the same story for Nelson. At this point, I would be surprised if Andy doesn't have a good season next year.

Not to mention that next year will be Andy's 4th year in the program and he's only a sophomore. Redshirt 1 yr and a Medcial hardship....he should be ready to go...

Brad was a great Quarterback but I'm looking forward to having a more mobile quarterback who is a threat to run at any time.

QB is key but running game should be bread and butter.
We have young running game still, below players look to be the work horses. Who knows maybe some on will come out of no where. Andy Kardoes did run the ball in different situations had 22 carries  44 yards   2.0 avg    3 tds. Andy also was 13 of 33 for 191 yards 1 td 1 int for a 91.95 passer rating. So we have some big shoes to fill and looks like running is bread and butter till a QB proves them self. Plus only losing 2 off the O-line with a lot of big young kids now in 2nd and 3rd years

Ask Stig and he'll always preach the run before the past.  When Ranek was pounding out 200+ yards a game Stig was loving life.  Stig's favorite play is the Iso run up the gut.  It was and probably still is, in his opinion, the fundamental play a defense must stop in order to consider themselves a success.

That's one of the things I really admire about Stig.  He'd be happy as a clam if our offense consisted of 4 yards and a cloud of dust on most plays.  However, with the talent we had a WR and QB over the last 4 seasons, he allowed his coaches to open up the passing game knowing it would also benefit his desire to run the ball.  He is not afraid to change his thinking if it benefits the team.  I can't wait to see the Jacks play next year!
