CHIEFS MAKE SEVERAL ROSTER MOVES TO TRIM ROSTER TO 53 PLAYERS
    Sep 03, 2005, 5:14:31 PM

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson announced on Saturday that the club had made several transactions to meet the NFL’s mandatory 53-man roster deadline. The club’s 2005 roster includes 13 players who were not on the club’s 53-man roster at any time during the 2004 season.

The Chiefs placed T Brett Williams on the Reserve/Injured List and terminated the contracts of CB Ashley Ambrose and QB Jonathan Quinn. The club also released the following players: T Thomas Barnett, WR John Booth, RB Dee Brown, S Scott Connot, DT Arrion Dixon, CB Alphonso Hodge, QB James Kilian, WR Jeris McIntyre, DE Clint Mitchell, DT Montique Sharpe, RB McKenzi Smith, TE Edwin Thompson, WR Craphonso Thorpe and DE Zach Ville.

NFL clubs are allowed to establish an eight-man practice squad beginning on Sunday, September 4th. Teams in the AFC West and the NFC South will each have an additional international development practice squad player in 2005. G Peter Heyer will be Kansas City’s international development practice squad player in 2005. Under the terms of this program, Heyer cannot be promoted to the 53-man roster in 2005.

    Re: Connot released

After the success he had in Europe this summer I find this surprising. I hope he finds a way to hang around on the practice squad or is picked up by another team.

    Good luck Scott!

      Re: Connot released

He had a bad hammy this preseason--that didn't help his cause. After he was initially released last year a couple of other teams expressed interest in him. I have no doubt that he'll be on someone's roster soon.

The Chiefs have brought Scott back to the practice squad. Here are highlights from a scouts.com story:

Chiefs Bring Back Draft Picks Hodge and Thorpe

        By Nick Athan Publisher
        Date: Sep 5, 2005

On Monday morning the Kansas City Chiefs announced their 2005 practice squad. Heading this class are the only two draftees that did not make the final roster; cornerback Alphonso Hodge and wide receiver Craphonso Thorpe. We take a look at all nine players on the list and what impact they might have on the roster this season. . . .

S Scott Connot - The former NFLE standout was caught up in a numbers game in Kansas City. Because the Chiefs were unable to unload veteran safety Jerome Woods; Connot was cut on Saturday. But he has some upside to eventually become a solid back-up for the Chiefs. . . .

        Go Scott!
        Go Chiefs!
        Go Jackrabbits! ;D
