Does UCA have a conference home yet? Seems like they would be a good addition to the GWFC.

They have joined the Southland Conf. The Southland added two schools, Texas A&M Corpus Christi (non-football) and UCA (football). It was a power thing between the schools that sponsor football and those that don't. If you recall Centenary from the Mid-Con and a few others applied but the football schools were only going to let in one non-football school.

Looks like a trend is forming. Think the Yotes are going to try to make a point?

At least no one can say they haven't improved their scheduling.

I don't think USD will be traveling to UNI this year. I believe they are playing Minn-Crookston on that date. From what I've read, the UNI game couldn't get worked out between the two schools. Not sure why. But Minn-Crookston has announced that they will be playing USD on Sept 9. Time will tell....

usd probably thought UNI should come to Vermillion, or at least maybe Ft. Dodge.

I did some searching around, not sure what's up with The Volante website but this was posted on D2football.com in late January.

                "From the Volante Paper

Athletic director Joel Nielsen confirmed the 2006 football season will open up at home for the Coyotes, but the complete football schedule is still in the works. Nielsen said contracts are still being negotiated.

"He said scheduling has been a problem with many teams in the confrence" Being in the NCC, finding teams that want to play us is difficult" Nielsen said.
UND(North Dakota) is having the same problems. It is hard for a power confrence.
USD had been in talks with teams from all levels of competition most notably Northern Iowa But nielson said the two sides were unable to finalize a contract.

As of now,Nielson said USD may end up playing in a 10 game schedule, with a possibility for an 11th He said the schedule could be released later this week or next week."

I'm just going by what Cap'n Cat posted. That being said, he did indicate that it was tentative.

Re: UCA to play back to back SD schools

A couple reason that USD maybe playing better teams in football. First they got hammered for a playoff spot due to their weaker non confrence schedule and also maybe seeing how they match up to a tougher schedule as a possible look at moving up.

Re: UCA to play back to back SD schools

The question begs to be asked....why the H*** can't they sack up and come to Brookings for a game! If they (USD) want to play teams at that level, why not make a shorter trip? I know it couldn't be worked out in the past, but maybe we should give it another shot for the 2007 schedule?

Well I guess either SDSU or USD doesn't want it because it would be very easy to work out.

USD wants a home and home, and I-AA school just don't travel to D-II schools. Just like I-A schools don't travel to I-AA schools. We offered to do a game in Brookings and the following year to play in Sioux Falls, this is more then generous, but USD turned that offer down.

Yeah, I remember that debacle.  I think offering the Sioux Falls site was more than gracious.  I was just revisiting the topic since they're apparently willing to travel far distances to play I-AA competition.
