LAKE CHARLES — The last 12 months were more of a rebuilding year than anybody at McNeese State ever could have imagined.

Hurricane Rita, the largely forgotten storm of 2005, damaged Cowboy Stadium and robbed the city and surrounding area of electrical power for weeks. Their shelter stolen, fans and players scattered to safe haven in all directions.

Trees fell, lifting huge chunks of earth with their root structures, crushing roofs and blocking roadways.
