About two weeks to go before the season opener . . . time to fire up a Wisconsin-La Crosse thread.

Two articles from the La Crosse Tribune to get us started:
UW-L begins camp in rare role of underdog
The UW-La Crosse football team opens its three-week preseason camp today in the unfamiliar role of a hunter, rather than the hunted, in the WIAC.

Of course, the hunted is a big, nasty grizzly bear that makes its home in Whitewater.

For now, the Eagles aren’t worried about that. They don’t face the heavily-favored Warhawks until Oct. 14 and there is a lot of work to be done before that showdown arrives.

UW-L opens the season 7 p.m. Sept. 2 at South Dakota State.
    Eagles get back to work
There was nothing out of the ordinary at UW-L’s first practice Sunday, and that was OK with Schumann. The bottom line was the Eagles were all together again, and that’s what really mattered to him.

“Definitely, I always look forward to the first day of practice,” Schumann said. “With spring ball, that gets you more excited for the season. We’ve all been working hard all summer long and looking forward to this day.”

Of course, Schumann and the Eagles also are counting down to the Sept. 2 season opener against South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.

Ops I meant “loads” of fun. Sorry I was rushing; I am working on a presentation and I have to catch a flight to Indianapolis later this afternoon so I didn’t use my usual care. :-[ ;D

Some interesting things in the projected lineup part of the press release, you all should take a look:

                    1. No Anthony Watson listed at all

                    2. Jaron Harris listed as #1 before Dusty Snyders

                    3. Jason Bonwell (JC Transfer) and Danny Batten (true Frosh) listed as starting DE. (BTW, I have heard Batten will make Hank Goff look like he was a true Frosh last year, he is that good)

                    4. If our defense can come together, it will be good for a long time. There are a lot of very young 1st and 2nd string players on that side of the ball. I only counted 4 seniors in the whole two deep.

My understanding is that Anthony is not going to be on the depth chart for a few games.

I would take a Jaron Harris anyday over a Dusty Snyders. Nothing against Dusty but Jaron has the speed and quickness, Randy Moss like abilities? when he is on and always a threat for a big play.

And Wats has had some issues the past few years to open the season so that really isnt much of a surprise there. Looking forward to the fun of this weekend's events.

Jason is still having a few problems with his knee that he had surgury on after the NDSU game llast year. He will be held out of the UWL game and be ready for Montana. He will most likely have a few problems with it all season. Probably more surgury after the season.
