South Dakota State University senior linebacker Marty Kranz has been named a semifinalist for the 2006 Draddy Trophy sponsored by The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame, and presented by HealthSouth.

A team captain from Watertown, Kranz ranks second on the team with 41 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss. He also has registered a pass breakup this season.

Established to honor former NFF Chairman Vincent dePaul Draddy, a Manhattan College quarterback who founded the Izod and Lacoste brands, the award comes with a 24-inch, 25-pound bronze trophy and a $25,000 post-graduate scholarship.

Up to 15 finalists were to be announced this week. The winner will be announced at the 49th NFF Awards Dinner on Dec. 5 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.

Congrats Marty on this achievement and good luck winning it.

    Re: Marty Kranz

I think just being considered for this award is an honor. I really do believe we have athletes that are motivated and equally capable of being a very good student. These are the people for which make me proud of the fact that I started a perpetual scholarship several years ago.

Congradualations Marty, your future is very bright after the last game is played and yes a great deal of life after football.
