Taking into account that we have one of the toughest schedules in the nation, I'll take a #22 Pre-Season ranking without any complaints!! 9 out of 11 opponents are listed or receiving votes...that my Jackrabbit friends, is a kick-a$$ schedule!!

I can hardly wait for the 2007 FB season and it's not even June 1st!!!!!

SDSU ranked 22nd in first preseason football poll

The South Dakota State University football team is ranked 22nd in the first NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision preseason poll of the season, released Monday by AnyGivenSaturday.com.

The Jackrabbits completed the 2006 season with a 7-4 overall record, including a runner-up finish in the Great West Football Conference with a 3-1 mark.

Four SDSU opponents are ranked in the top 10: North Dakota State is ranked third, Youngstown State (Ohio) is fourth, Northern Iowa stands sixth and Cal Poly checks in at No. 10. Wto-time defending champion Appalachian State (N.C.) holds the top spot.

The GWFC was one of three conferences with three teams in the top 25, while the Gateway Football Conference and Colonial Athletic Association lead the way with four teams.

In addition, five other Jackrabbit opponents are receiving votes in the preseason poll: GWFC member UC Davis, as well as Georgia Southern, Central Arkansas, Western Illinois and Texas State.

SDSU is scheduled to open the 2007 season Aug. 30 at Western Illinois. . . . (read more)

I'm eligible to vote over there but don't b/c I don't think I know enough about all the teams. One more year of monitoring the polls and teams and I think I'll start voting.

Can still participate in the Reg Season polling.

BTW, you don't have to know about ALL the teams. Just ask, and their fans or rivals will give you good info to peg with.

My poll, I had 25 of the top 27 and 23 of the top 25. ;D The two I didn't choose were deliberate, and I think they won't be in the final 25.

              Re: Preseason Top 25

Anyone know when we last entered a season in a top 25 poll for football - D1AA or otherwise? My memory has since been overrun with work and princess characters (my daughters), but I can't remember the last time we were listed in the pre-season poll. The one season I would guess we may have been was the year after Coach Stig won the NCC coach of the year and Ranek was back for another season. Anyone know?

I think it would have been 2000 when we started 5-0 and then lost to an 0-5 Mankato team on Hobo Day on our way to a 5 game losing streak. Rennerfelt was a senior and Ranek was a junior.

                    Re: Preseason Top 25

I picked up a copy of Lindy's College Football 2007 preview today.  They have SDSU at number 10 in their preseason rankings, right behind #9 NDSU.  Other ranked SDSU opponents include #  11 Youngstown State, # 13 Central Arkansas, # 20 Northern Iowa, and # 23 Texas State. If SDSU and NDSU were in the Gateway this year, 6 of the nine teams would be ranked in Lindy's top 25.

They also pick SDSU to fiinsh second in the Great West behind NDSU.

I'd love to be a Top Ten team and I am a huge home team fan.....but I do believe us at #10 is a little high. #15 - #20 is where I would put us. With a good season I hope we can be there......

A thread on Any Given Saturday (link below) is discussing the USA Today Preseason Football Poll. As one poster noted, rankings of this sort usually go out the window after the first weekend of play. The Bison appear in this poll at #7...the Jackrabbits are not mentioned in this poll.
