  • SDSU to interview two equestrian candidates

    SDSU will be interviewing two canidates to fill the head coaching job for the equestrian team.  They are from Kansas State and University of South Carolina.  Good luck to both candidates

    SDSU To Interview Equestrian Coaches
    BROOKINGS, SD – South Dakota State University will interview two candidates for the head equestrian coach position this week.

    Meghan Cunningham, assistant coach at Kansas State University, will interview Wednesday, while Joseph Humphrey, assistant coach at the University of South Carolina, will be here on Friday.

    Cunningham is a 2001 graduate of Virginia Tech and expects to complete a Master’s Degree at Kansas State in August.. She has been assistant coach at KSU since August 2001.

    Humphrey earned both a bachelor’s (2000) and master’s (2002) degree from Western Kentucky, and has been at USC since August 2002.

    On April 22, SDSU announced it would begin competition in women’s equestrian during the 2005-06 season with the head coach and an assistant coach hired for FY 2004-05.

      Meghan Cunningham

      Ms. Cunningham is the Assistant Coach of the KSU Equestrian Team. She is primarily in charge of the Hunt Seat Equitation Team. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pa., Meghan received her B.S. in Animal Science from Virgina Tech. Meghan also has extensive teaching and show experience, winning numerous ribbons and regional championships in the hunter/jumper circuit.         Its interesting that we have only two candidate, but both have good backgrounds. This is quiet a contrast to filling the head baseball coaching job where in the press conference, I think some one said there were 100 applicants.

        Its interesting that animal science plays a important role in this sport and makes this sport very unique.

        After reading these profiles, you can't help think about the movie Sea Busicut and the wonderful cast that played in the movie. Can you imagine Toby McQuire as our coach? ;D ;D

        I think we will definitely find different Jackrabbit Fans for this sport than any other sport. I suspect, events at the Sittel will be sellouts as not many people detest horses. Even I am looking for to attending these events once the sport is up and running.
