    BROOKINGS, S.D. — Five high school standouts, including three from South Dakota, have signed national letters of intent, indicating they will enroll at South Dakota State University next fall and compete for the Jackrabbit women's track and field program.

    Signing during the fall signing period, were:
    • Kelsey Aune, East Grand Forks, Minn. (East Grand Forks High School);
    • Kallie Baum, Rapid City, S.D. (Rapid City Central High School);
    • Rachael Hakk, Moorhead, Minn. (Moorhead High School);
    • Lora Shearer, Salem, S.D. (McCook Central High School), and
    • Jessica Tetzlaff, Watertown, S.D. (Watertown High School).

    Aune was a 2005 sectional champion in cross country, who also finished 29th in the Minnesota Class A state cross country meet this past fall after finishing third in the sectional qualifier. Then the men signed a shot-put and discus thrower from Minnesota. He sounds like a good signing.

    Minnesota athlete signs with track
    Prep thrower standout Michael Shaver of Owatonna, Minn., has indicated he will enroll at South Dakota State University in the fall and compete for the Jackrabbit men's track and field program.

    Shaver is a multi-sport athlete who has excelled in both track and field and football at Owatona High School. He competed in both the shot put and discus at the 2006 Minnesota Class AA State Track and Field Meet and returns with the leading mark in the discus (170-3) and third-best shot put mark (54-3.75) in Minnesota. Shaver, who posted an eighth-place finish at the state meet in shot put last season, has gained valuable experience at the Junior Olympic level as well. He set the New Mexico state record in the shot put as an eighth grader and the Minnesota state record in the discus as a sophomore, after placing fifth at nationals. Shaver was recently named first-team all-conference in football after guiding his team to a 4-4 league record.

    Jessica is the daughter of SDSU basketball All-American Mark Tetzlaff and the niece of SDSU football All-American Kevin Tetzlaff. Mark has a younger son who is a sophomore in high school, who is a pretty good basketball player.
