    Schrader makes jump to SDSU

    By RICK DEINES

Marshalltown High School golfer Whitney Schrader Thursday signed a letter of intent to attend South Dakota State University to advance her golf career.

South Dakota State head coach Jared Baszler is excited to have Schrader on his Jackrabbit golf team.

“We think Whitney will have a huge impact as a freshman,” Baszler said. “She is arguably the best recruit I have had at South Dakota State. One of the reasons we wanted her is because we felt she could contribute right away.” . . . (read more)

Women's Golf signs two, adds two more

BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State University signed two high school prospects to letters of intent, indicating they plan to enroll at SDSU next fall and participate in the women’s golf program. Andover (Minn.) High School senior Hillary Gerster and Marshalltown (Iowa) High School senior Whitney Schrader both signed letters this week. . . .

“Hillary is a big signing for SDSU women’s golf as she will be able to come in as a freshman and contribute right away for us.” Said SDSU Head Golf Coach Jared Baszler. “Her credentials speak for themselves and SDSU is lucky to get one of the best seniors coming out of Minnesota this year. Hillary is a model student-athlete who will fit well into our program.” . . .

"Whitney is another big signing for our program and will also contribute right away as a freshman.” Said Baszler.“She’s an extremely hard worker and her reputation precedes her. Hillary and Whitney together will come in and fill a much needed void along with Abby Feehan (Dell Rapids, SD) who we signed in the fall.”

Two other golfers have been accepted for admission at South Dakota State, and plan on participating in the women’s golf program.

A three time letter winner at Madison (S.D.) High School, Kelly Wilkens comes to SDSU after three straight South Dakota State Class A High School Tournament appearances, including a 10th place finish in 2006. . . .

Nicole Bowen comes to SDSU after earning three varsity letters at Spooner High School in Spooner, Wisc., where she won Northwest Wisconsin Junior Tour Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006. . . . (read more)

Women's golf fall signee also didn't hurt her cause winning the Class-A State HS Tournament by 6 strokes yesterday.  Read below:

SDSU recruit wins by six strokes; Lead-Deadwood ties state record with fourth straight team title

Dell Rapids senior Abby Feehan made her final round of high school golf a memorable one Tuesday.

Feehan fired a 78 for a two-day total of 159, winning the Class A girls state individual title by six strokes over two-time defending state champ Tara Hofer of Lead-Deadwood.

Feehan, a South Dakota State recruit, held the lead after shooting 81 on Monday. She followed Tuesday with the second-best score of the day.

"It really hasn't sunk in yet," Feehan said. "Maybe in a couple of hours it will - but it feels really good."

With the victory, Feehan erased any chance of Hofer winning her third straight championship.
        .....
"I think that I was able to stay out of trouble all round, and I was also able to successfully get up and down today," Feehan said.

The end of her high school career marks a new beginning in collegiate golf next season at nearby SDSU.

"My advice to the rest of the team is to play a lot in the off-season, play their game, and what will happen, will happen," Feehan said.

Her head coach, Jeff Dvorak, wasn't surprised to see his senior come out on top.

"It's really outstanding for her, and what is really outstanding is that she got what she deserved," Dvorak said. "It's great to see good things happen to great people."
